Born and raised in New Delhi, India, I completed my medical education at Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi university. Relocating to the United States in 1996, I began my residency at Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore where I held the position of Chief Resident during my third year of Internal Medicine training. My interest in endocrinology grew during my research and clinical rotations at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Following my residency, I pursued a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with clinical training specifically at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disease (NIDDK). At the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), my research focused on bone metabolism, osteoporosis, and phosphorus wasting.

From 2003-2024, I practiced clinical endocrinology as a part of a specialty group in the Rockville-Bethesda area, caring for patients with diverse endocrine issues.

I am also a member of the World Bank Group Community. My spouse serves as the Regional Director of Infrastructure at the World Bank, and we have been residents of the Maryland area for the past three decades. We have one daughter who attends a Maryland state school. Fluent in Hindi and Punjabi, I am passionate about reading, listening to podcasts, and enjoying music. While I hope to travel more at some point, I currently find joy in vicariously experiencing my husband's unique and enriching travel experiences.

My Philosophy

I strongly believe that while there is a lot of data and tests available to us, the key to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment lies in attentive listening, keen observation, and collaborative planning tailored to each patient's unique circumstances. While treatment guidelines and algorithms provide valuable guidance, I recognize that life is complex outside the realm of clinical research studies. I deeply respect the resilience of my patients as they navigate managing their health conditions alongside the demands of their jobs, caring for elderly parents, and raising their children and grandchildren.

While we are taught to educate patients about the consequences of neglecting their health, I also emphasize the importance of self-compassion and realistic expectations.  I try and make myself available to work closely with other healthcare providers and facilitate referrals to academic centers for specialized care when needed.
